You can never stress enough how important language/communication is for the
starting/surviving/thriving in medical career in U.S. My boss told me that
my weakest point is my poor spoken Englsih.
For the interview practice, I have ever tried 2 language tutors, 1 language
exchanger, and watching many movies... and if I could do all these again, I
won't try any language tutors/ exchagers anymore.Basically they are just
pretend to be good in the first class and you will find that they are of so
little use since the 2nd class. Belive me, if your pronouciation is not
hopelessly sick, don't waste time and money on these tutors, unless you hire
those super expensive professional ones, which I have no experience with.
My highest record is $40/hr.
Later,I saw someone posted ESLpodcast here on MEDI, and I downloaded some of
them into my iphone and ipod. I did not think they are good, but just
because they are already in my ipod, I listen to them when I am on the
commute everyday. I had no expectation about it but later found this is
really a goodie! The context is simple but teach you many culture things of U
.S., and the talk is slow, so it give you enough time to follow reading and
memorize. Every episode is only 15 minutes, so you can do this whenever you
have a moment.
Acknowledgement: I have no conflict of interest with this ESL but I really
think this is a good thing which many here may find helpful.
