The Microsystem & Semiconductor Technology Lab (MSTL) at Shenzhen University
(SZU) is inviting multiple motivated and talented candidates to the PhD/
master program. 
Accepted students may choose projects among the following subjects:
1.Novel electronic/ optoelectronic devices, such as GaN devices, quantum dot
LEDs, etc.
2.Quantum information/ sensing/ electronics (both theoretical and
experimental)
3.Devices/ Algorithm for AI(machine vision).
4.Microsystem/ devices/ bioelectronics for medical applications (
bioengineering).
5.Devices for 6G communication.
6.Novel MEMS sensors
7.Light-matter interaction
A new, highly modern laboratory and a research oriented working environment
will be at his/her disposal.

Benefit
PhD students are fully funded through both Tuition as well as Stipend (
approx. 50,000 CNY salary; this should be enough to cover all the living
expenses of life with good quality(6000 CNY for annual accommodation); When
necessary, more funding will be available for extraordinary students ( for
three to five years). The funded position is depending upon the government
regulation.

Admission requirements
1.Completed bachelor/master’s degree in electrical engineering, physics,
optics, bioengineering/biology, material sciences, computer science/
engineering, mechanical engineering, etc
2.Excellent academic performance
3.Very good English language skills
4.Strong motivation to carry out research projects
Candidates are also expected to meet the following qualifications: 
Experience with experimental laboratory as well as theoretical work, using
analytic and numerical techniques, including simulation programs.
Furthermore, we expect the candidate to show a high degree of self-
initiative and an inherent curiosity for engineering and interdisciplinary
questions.

About Microsystem & Semiconductor Technology Lab (MSTL)
The Microsystem & Semiconductor Technology Lab is interested in novel
optoelectronics/electronics devices/systems for both fundamental research
and various application fields, such as biomedical, energy, AI, quantum
information, etc. The group has access to the facilities (growth,
microfabrication, characterization) for compound semiconductors, silicon,
organic electronics, nanocrystals, etc. Thus, our researches are mostly
application driven while innovating from fundamental scientific level and
multidisciplinary perspectives. The design are not constrained by material
systems and complex/novel devices can be configured/fabricated. The group is
well founded and had publications in various prestigious journals.
The group is led by the researchers with international background and
industry experience. Thus both western and eastern/Chinese culture are
appreciated. Currently, English is the working language of the group.

Supervisor information
The professors affiliated to the lab has degree/experiences from the most
prestigious institutions worldwide, including Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Michigan,
Hong Kong University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Institut
National des Sciences Appliquées de Rennes (France) etc. They have
considerable expertise in photonics/ electronics/ bio-engineering/ quantum
science/ computer science/ optics etc.

About Shenzhen, SZU & Optoelectronic Engineering Program
Renowned as China’s Silicon Valley, Shenzhen has been leading New China’s
reforming, opening-ups and national legendary hub for high-tech innovation,
creation and industrialization. Its economic output totaled $338 billion in
2017, is considered as one of the tech capitals in the world.
Located nearby Shenzhen Bay in Shenzhen, SZU is regarded
as the fastest developing university in China, and also among the "Top
Universities in China" and one of the top universities listed in the World
Top Ranking Universities. 
The program of Optoelectronic Engineering is among the top 5 programs of
photonics in China. The college is well funded and carries the advanced
research the related fields.
