All schools are different: some require credits in english or humanities
explicitly and some do not at all; some require advanced course such as
biochem; some might STRONGLY recommend some courses so will it hurt if you
do not have those courses, you bet it will, to some extent at least.
Although the majority just require the holy 16 courses, labs included, one
has to really dig into each school he or she is interested in and find the
detailed info. One efficient way to find the information is to CALL the
ASSISANT for MED. SCHOOL ADMISSION or some person like that. This person
is
often quite knowledgable on all the important issues. So either talk to
him
or her on phone, or even better, schedule a personal appointment with her,
tell her who you are and spit your guts out about how you want to be a doc,
and let him and her suggest you what to do next.

About the credits you got from China, again, it is SCHOOL-DEPENDENT, or
even
INDIVIDUAL-DEPENDENT. I will imagine if the dean of med. school or a big
wig like that is championing for you, who cares if you did not re-take a
couple of chemistry courses in the states.

It is somehow just like applying for residency, which has been emphasized
by
dok and all others for numerous times: we need to work on the WHOLE PACKAGE
! Sure, the higher the scores the better. But we have to do the best on
all
other aspects as well, especially for us who went to college in China. So
why don't we start from some NECESSARY homework on the med. schools we are
interested in first.

and search for "data whore", msar1011.xls is the shanzhai version of the
original, so use it @ ur own risk.

: in my opinion.

Very good information indeed.

Just a couple more points to add. As a Chinese student, MCAT should
really be the least of concerns. There are three major obstacles:

1. Many schools simply do not take international students
2. Some schools require international students pay 4 year's tuition up
front.
3. Almost all schools require some sort of education in US/Canada. Some
require undergraduate education period; others require some pre-
requisites.

GC will take care of obstacles 1 & 2. Not having some sort of pre-
requisites certainly limit your choices. Of course, if you have a
strong hand helping you, you don't need a lot of choices.

As DreamChaser said, every school is different in terms and conditions.
But in every school those terms & conditions are made by people and
exceptions can be made as well. Don't be shy to contact the admission
dean, tell them who you are, how much you want to be a doctor, and
mostly importantly prove to them that you are for real. It is hard to
fake it. Making excuses not taking some necessary courses, or avoiding
volunteer experience just don't make you look sincere.

Don't be shy and tell people that you want to be a doctor. Ask for
advice, ask for help, and often times you will be surprised what people
can offer you.
