1. Generally speaking, most Texas programs are not IMG (CMG ) friendly.
It probably has something to do with the fact that None of Chinese (mainland
) medical schools is in the Texas foreign medical school database. It is
weird since there are many CMG attending practice in Texas, e.g. in all the
major hospitals in Texas medical center. I suspect the absence of Chinese
medical school in the database is due to the lack of communication between
Chinese government and Texas medical board.
2. For specific program:
Texas Tech University (Amarillo) Program
Amarillo, Texas 140-48-21-477: I did not apply, but know it is IMG/CMG
friendly from various forums. CMGs from this mitbbs medical career have got
University of Texas Medical Branch (Austin) Program
Austin, Texas 140-48-12-415 : Very CMGs friendly. Internal medicine ( 14 per
year), currently has 1CMG in PGY-3, 1 PGY-2, 4 PGY-1. Also has CMG in
Neurology. No graduation year limit. Excellent Trauma center and emergency
department. Very nice program with reasonable workload.
Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas Program
Dallas, Texas 140-48-11-420: CMG friendly, May have graduation year limit.
I was on their waiting list, but after I called PC, I got the IV! Although
a community program, Chairmen (from UTSW) and PD (from Harvard) are very
academic, pay a great deal attention on residency training. Private
hospital with rich and nice environment, complete EMR, resident can put
order from home. Provide medical and dental insurance for dependents, plus
daycare. The other good thing is they allow PGY3 work as chief resident, the
chief resident I met during IV is going to NIH for Allergy and Immunology
fellow. During IV, Chairmen showed a picture of a CMG mm (who is doing Hem/
onc fellow now) saying she is his favorite. 
Methodist Health System Dallas Program
Dallas, Texas 140-48-12-417: Graduation year limit.
University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Program
Dallas, Texas 140-48-21-419: Very CMG friendly! 1 CMG every year. I know 5
CMGs got IV for IM this year.．Thank soaplover and knockingdown for sharing
their IV experience with me. I also got help from the PGY-2 CMG gg. It is
a very busy and well respected IM program, but I did not see anyone who was
stressed out. I was very impressed by the pride the residents have for their
hardworking. See knockingdown’s post about IV experience.
Baylor University Medical Center Program
Dallas, Texas 140-48-31-416: Not CMG friendly, mainly b/c graduation
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L Foster School of
Medicine Program. El Paso, Texas 140-48-11-424: I did not apply, but know
it is IMG friendly from various forums. CMGs from this mitbbs medical career
have got IV previously.
University of Texas Medical Branch Hospitals Program
Galveston, Texas 140-48-21-421: for IM, not CMG friendly, mainly because
graduation year limit.
Methodist Hospital Program
Houston, Texas 140-48-13-534: Graduation within 5 yr. I applied anyway, was
told by PC that they might consider me if I graduated 6 or 7 years, but not
Baylor College of Medicine Program
Houston, Texas 140-48-21-422: Not CMG friendly. For IM, had only 1 big bull
CMG in the past 10 years. A friend got a IV in January, but feels he is not
considered seriously. PD actually told him: We are taking risk if we take
you because CMG may not be able to get Texas physician training permit!
University of Texas at Houston Program
Houston, Texas 140-48-31-423: Not CMG friendly. Has lots of IMGs, but no
CMG ever. PD does not value applicants who have lots of research experience.
He mentioned he does not look at a ROL if it is written by a PhD.
Texas Tech University (Lubbock) Program
Lubbock, Texas 140-48-21-459: I did not apply, but know it is IMG friendly
from various forums. CMGs from this mitbbs medical career have got IV
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Program
San Antonio, Texas 140-48-21-425: not CMG friendly, None of the CMG friends
( applying IM, Psy, or Patholgy) got IV. The PD actually said they will not
IV me, nothing against me, but CMG generally.
Texas A&M College of Medicine-Scott and White Program
Temple, Texas 140-48-21-426: Strict graduation year limit although they do
not mention this requirement on their website. I found it out after calling
