I am a third year psych resident in a univ program on the east coast. I have
a close friend who came in last year for a voluntary research position (no
pay) in one of our inpt attending's lab. He successfully matched to our
program couple days ago. Now, he is leaving and the spot is open. The
attending who provided a huge support to my friend is interested in
continuing working with sb. I have to be honest that the lab is very small
with limited resource and most of time you have to figure sth out by
I DONT know whether this will work for you or not for 2010, but
certainly you will have more chance to get in compared to an outsider with
I do see this as an opportunity to getting into this field, but keep in mind,the sacrifice will be huge as well because of many months separation from your family. Research is about chromosome copy number variations, but neuroscience or substances abuse research background certainly will strengthen your residency application.
