Last year I went for IVs, this year I met many come to IV, want to share
some thoughts, maybe right, maybe wrong, hope it can be helpful:
1. show interests:
Many candidates show no/low/not enough interest in the program--- big big
mistakes. Yes, it may not be a top notch program, but no program will rank
you high if you dont show real interests becoz no program is short of great
FMG applicants. And I have to say some CMGs are overconfident ..... we all
hear CMGs match to great programs on this forums, but that are very small
portion of us, most old CMGs go to so so programs, many cant get matched ...
So be humble, be real, ppl can read your attitude during IV;
2. go to IV as early as possible:
Program usually invites who they really like early, so early group usually
has more strong candidates, and leave stronge impression. It is like
complete in figure skating or gymnastics, you wanna be in the strong group
to be competitive ... I heard PD just dismiss whole group as a weak group;
3. dont ask personal Qs:
Usually it is for the PDs or residents to be lectured not to ask certain Qs,
but you shouldnt ask certain Qs during IV either, and ppl are listening ...
. CMGs like to ask personal Qs (maybe due to culture differences), esp when
there are chinese in the group. Better not to do that, it makes you look
nosy, and americans dont like that kind of ppl in their team.
Just somethings I noticed, and hope it makes sense to you guys. Good luck!

不过不太同意第二点，按照FA for match的说法，自己心仪的地方应该排在后面去面试
