I have heard many unfriendly comments about this program before my interview.
However, the interview experience turn out to be quite nice.
First, we had a morning conference with a guest speaker from Johns Hopkins.
Then the candidates were interviewed by two faculties, either associate PD
or chief resident+PD. The APD who interviewed me is very friendly. He knows
my background fairly well and asked me about my research. Then he introduced
the program and said some inviting words about the potential of clinical
research in this program.
PD is a seriously looking tall guy. He asked some comment questions and also
about my parents profession. No medical questions . During the whole interview,
he stared at me without blinking his eyes.
Later, other candidates told us that he did that to everybody. 7 candidates were interviewed that morning. We are all from different countries and had a good
chat. That was the high light of the interview for me.
A PGY-1 resident then gave us a hospital tour. He is also very friendly. He
told us the service is busy but you got to learn a lot as well. Lunch coupon
was provided by the program. I ordered a slice of pudding from cafe and it
was delicious!!! They have some other very attracting bakery as well.
Strongly suggest other interviewee to try.
Overall, I think it is a decent program among NYC community hospitals.
