Match vs prematch

Here are the NRMP 2008 resident match results

Seniors of US Med School 15242 14359 94.2%
Osteopathic Med School 1870 1339 71.6%
Non-US citizen from Foreign
Medical School 7335 3108 42.4%

Total PGY1 positions are 22240. 20940 matched. Most of the applicants got
into programs via match.

Be patient. Be confident. Match day is the beautiful day every year. Only
the applicant himself or herself knows what he/she wants.

Lots of Internal Medicine programs in NY offer prematch. They needs labor.
The work load is pretty heavy. Before you accept the prematch, you must make
sure you can handle it physically and mentally. When I was preparing USMLE,
one of my friend told me that he was treated as a panda at home (he
suffered from the work load). He told me later that he almost quit or he
would not take that prematch if he tried again.

But there are so many uncertainty regarding match. According to insiders,
the match rate of Non-US citizen from Foreign Medical School will be around
40% but definitely drop a lot after 2009 due the increasing of Seniors of US
Med School. So, it will be more difficult after 2009.

Dr.二饼, You gradated from this program. Which parts of the program do you
like the most?
What is your criteria for selecting an Intern/resident?
What is the patient population like?

CMG: very few gradated < 10 years
A. >90 + US MS or PhD/ MS or PhD in China
B. >90 only
C. 80 to 89 + US MS or PhD / MS or PhD in China
D. 80 to 89

For Internal Medicine,

If you belong to A, definitely go to match! You have chance to win. You 'd
convince PD that you will come. Then PD will rank you high.

If you belong to B, go to match! PD love this group.

If you belong to C, go to match! PD love this group too.

If you belong to D, don't miss any prematch.
