Match 2009 is going on now, just write down some interview tips that I
thought maybe helpful for applying CMG doctors.

1. Don't be afraid of contacting PDs directly. Many programs listed that
they prefer to have fresh graduates or graduates less than 5 years. As
LAODAO said, write to the PDs who might be interested in your "whole package
" and asked whether they might encourage you to apply for their programs.

2. Dress-up and never dress down for your interviews. Be professional and be
polite, if the PD is a lady or an old gentleman, hold the door for her/him.
Never sit down before the PD sits down first. Prepare a couple of "
interesting cases" to present during your interviews. Also prepare a paper
fold that includes your CV, Personal Statement, USMLE scores, papers, awards
...etc., write down the PD's name and your interview date on the top of your
folder cover, while write down your name and AAMC ID number on the side tab
of your paper folder. When you are finishing your interview, you may
present your folder to the PD and say something like "If you have time and
want to know more about me, I prepare this fold for you". If the PD praise
you on your research or some other credits, just say "Thank you". No need to
be modest for your hardworking achievement.

3. Send handwiriting thank you cards instead of emails. Be personal but also
be efficient. Bring your blank thank you cards with you to your interviews,
and write your thank you cards the same day and mail them out before you
board your return flight.

4. Don't be intamidated by all the YOUNG 99ers on this board. You may have
other credentials that PDs are looking for. In order to pump-up your
confidence, I am an old CMG (>10 years) but I am accepted by an university
program who prefers to have graduates < 5 years. All my 3 steps of USMLE are
in mid-80s, but the PD considered my "whole package"---LORs, US PhD, papers
, awards and spoken English.

Good luck, doctors!
