Some advice from an old CMG about to finish PGY-1:
1."Stay Humble! Success Can Seduce You To Idiocracy!"
This is especially important for those supercow CMGs who matched/prematched
into super programs. Don’t think yourself know something because you got
double or triple 99 on your USMLEs, or because you published super papers in
the field you will be practicing. You really know NOTHING in everyday
practice as an IMG PGY-1.
2.You will be humiliated, you will be frustrated, and you will often be
offended. Remember, this is part of your training, and part of your

whenever you can.
4.Yes, you are exhausted at the end of the day. You just want to have some
sleep. But wait, before you go to bed, read something related to your work
today. You need to build up you knowledge day by day, because as a PGY-1,
you don’t have designated time to read books.
Rule A. Your seniors/attendings are always right;
Rule B. If you think your seniors/attendings are definitely, clearly wrong,
refer to rule A before you say anything.
6.Never do anything that might involve you in any kind of public relation
disaster. On this issue, I think Dokknife has posted more than enough.
