I finally got approved of my green card today on our National day after
coming to States for more than 7 years. I am post call today and slept till
just now and checked my email, and, man, I can't beleive I saw the long
anticipated magic approval email from USCIS! I have been expecting this
email daily for almost 4 months. I am finally relieved. I am so happy it
I just want to share my happiness and my GC story with friends here without
GC. I had my Phd in 2005 and matched to a IM program with OPT. I started to
apply for GC right after in the residency with NIW in August 2005 and was
approved right away in 2 months. Then, the long wait for 485 approval
started. I did some research with the Chair in the program and he and the PD
wrote a letter to back me up for continued research.
When I applied to fellowship last year, I checked green card for status.
Luckily I got it before next June. The only reason I had the gut to do all
of these is because a CMG has done this before. I met a CMG as cardiology
fellow exactly did the same thing: Phd-opt-NIW in residency and green card
in fellowship. For residency or fellowship program, nobody wants you to show
your green card, as long as you can work legally.
I am too happy to be articulate at this moment. The point I want to make is;
you can use OPT or EAD to start residency; you can appy for GC during
residency with oning research work.
Good luck with match, guys. I am going out to celebrate now.
