1. I would agree 7 years as the limit, but you need to check DOS/USCIS
regulation to confirm. Normally it shall be enough to cover your residency.

2. If you drop, you drop. 2-year home country service is always there,
unless you get waiver.

3. one extra thing I confirmed with ECFMG about "Statement of Need"
a) if you stay with your program finishing your resiency, the letter is good
for the entire resideny, no renewal needed.

b) if you switch program but not specialty, you need to verify with ECFMG if
the letter still stands

c) if you switch specialty, DEFINITELY you need a new letter

d) you might need a new letter for fellowship, need to contact ECFMG
