From my previous post, I already mentioned the bad experience with the car
service in New York. The guy showed up 20 mins late and almost ruined my
interview.

I just came back from an interview in Chicago. Knowing very well about the
bad traffic in the rush hour in Chicago, I told the taxi to come to pick me
up one and half hour earlier than the interview time.

The taxi did show up in the hotel on time. But the problem is, the drive
worked overnight and I was her last customer in the early morning. She was
tired and depressed. And she didn't know how to get to the hospital.
Fortunately I printed the map and the driving direction beforehand (credit
to my dear husband who took care all these administrative work for me :).

Since she was very tired, she still felt disoriented after seeing my map.
We had to stop several times on the street to ask for directions. Finally we
got on the freeway and we missed the exit. She just kept talking about her
misarable life and didn't really care where we were going. When I saw
aonther freeway ahead of me, I knew we went too far. I had to make the right
decisions to go back on the original freeway and take the right exit.
During the whole time, I was telling her where to go.

It took us one hour and fifteen mins to get to the hospital for 16 miles
distance between hotel and the hospital. The meter showed 76 dollors which
was much than the quote I got the night before. So I had to talk to her boss
and negotiated it.

It was a happy ending for this adventure. I paid what I should pay for the taxi and I was
not late at all. But I learned that you can nevr expect what might be
happening on your interview. It's better to put some extra time in case
something unexpected happens.

Thanks for kindly reminding.

For important events, it will never go wrong if you do plan B. That's why we
should plan trip ahead, take a umbrella, an extra shirt, and copies of all
ERAS documents.

Honestly, if I were you, I'll try to stay in the hotel near the hospital, as
close as it could be. Definitely avoid any highway. This is not the time to
save money.

Hehe. After seeing your post, I think I will avoid taking a taxi during the
interview day.
Live close to the hospital, better be in the walking distance. If that's not
possible, then find a hotel close to the subway. Do not take ground
transportation in big cities such as NYC and Chicago.
