My ld got the result today and wasn't thrilled at all. He studied for CK for
nearly 2 months, and did daily observation in his university hospital and
worked on his thesis projects at the same time. Not really much experience
here since it's not a perfect score. However, he did learn some lessons from
it. 1st, practicing problems only is probably not enough, which was what he
did -- he didn't touch Kaplan notes or any other reading material. Although
for him there's no way to know how much difference this had made, I would
say allow yourself a little more time to go over the material in a
systematical way before/while working on problems. 2nd, improving your
reading comprehension is one of the keys. My ld is normally slow at reading
and this had created a big hurdle for him in CK -- he had a hard time
finishing all questions. But maybe it's not a general problem for others -
maybe it's just that he's a slow reader :)
His performance profile is quite unbalanced too, compared to step1. Some are
very good, while others (e.g. psychiatry) are near the borderlines.
Anyway, he kind of had expected this result based on his mock exams, which
btw were really good at forecasting :)
All in all, I'm happy that he's one more step closer to the real game. And
best wishes to all who are planning on, studying for, or applying to
residency programs.
