所有的交流 〈email, phone call, pre-interview dinner, small talk with
greeter/ PC, interview session, post-interview phone call/ email,
verbal/
e.g., a meeting was held right after the interview, all candidates
were
rank into four categories: upper/ middle/ low/ un-rank

Package (USMLE, honors, LoR- chair/ dean/ prof, PS, global experience,
paper
All transform to one final score. (e.g., USMLE 15points for 250 & up,
10points for 235-349, LoR- prof 15points for outstanding, 10points for
excellent, 5points for good, one publication 1point till 5points. )

e.g., one candidate grew up from miserable family (stated in his PS,)
but
held a mature attitude toward it. During the interview, he did not
even
mention about it. Chair was impressed and call him to follow up-
although
his package is just mediocre.

如果你的package无懈可击,you reinforce how fit a candidate you are;如果你的
package有硬伤,you resolve the concerns and replace them with the new found
strengths, through your ob/externship for example。

###面试问题很多但只有one ultimate question to answer; “Why should I hire
you?”

1) To answer this question, one shall think like a program director, not a
candidate. Surprisingly, your answer is most likely not far from that of a
program director. Who does not like a guy who is hard working, knows his/her
stuff, works well with colleagues, and communicates well with patients?

2) About hardworking, the consensus is if you are an IMG (even better, an
Asian, a CMG), you are hardworking by default. There is rarely someone who
will question your hardworking attitude. So, save the energy for the rest.

3) Our clinical capacity and communication skills are the areas most likely
under scrutiny. To show you absolutely own these skills, think very hard of
There must be one to multiple times that you did well, or
better than your peers, in a clinical setting. Talk about it/them. “Based
on a true story” has its merits as you can give the details more naturally,
vividly, and with enthusiasm.

4) Now, if you can find a way to show that you are a fun, loving person, for
example, through your interests and hobbies,

###面试要问的问题很多但只有one core question to ask; “Why should I come to
work for you?”

1) We all know that we CANNOT ask this question outright? But, study the
program thoroughly and find one unique aspect of it that attracts you. Then,
ask a question about it and make your interviewer think hard to give you a
good answer. By doing so, you leave an impression that you are intelligent
and really into the program. Also you have answered your interviewer well
and so has your interviewer vice versa. We stand a better chance when we
have achieved a good rapport and interaction (two-way) with our interviewers
.

2) Avoid the lists of “Questions to Ask” that you can find online during
the interview sessions. They are good questions to ask interns/residents and
the program coordinators during the introduction and hospital tour. Your
interviewers will be bored by those questions simply because they are too
common and basic. In short, these questions cannot make you stand out.

MORALE for your interviews

Many candidates have this or that weakness in their applications. For many
CMGs, the YOG is the sore spot. We have worked so hard. It feels hurtful to
be declined an invitation to interview or a chance to be ranked high simply
because of the YOG. However, the minute you receive an invitation to
interview, you are presented with an opportunity to resolve all concerns,
for example the YOG issue. Think as if you freshly graduated and that you
are indeed an equal to any of the candidates in that room. All you have to
do is to show your interviewers that you are as good in person as on the
paper, or even better:) Your confidence is the single biggest reassurance of
your capability to your interviewers.
