669$ including airline + hotel(三星/四星) + rental car

这个月去.觉得价钱很公道.就是不知道在MAUI岛呆那么多天会不会太
浪费.但是如果同时去HONOLULU,就要另加机票和旅馆费用,而且在
MAUI上的旅馆费也浪费了.这是我第一次去HAWAII.

大家伙给点建议.谢了.

不会。honolulu is not good at all - Maui has everything honolulu
has and a lot more.

if you really want to visit another island try kauai.

I spent 八天七夜  at Maui last spring.
If you are an outdoor person, you will find enough activities to keep you
busy.
Snorkeling at Molokini, watching sunset at Kaleakala montain and taking the
road to Hana are the three things you must do.
By the way, rent a small SUV or pickup truck.
The road there is terrible and very narrow. 
Last month, I heard that the road to Hana was closed due to bad conditions.
Don't know if it is open now?

Maui is the place you call heaven.

We didn't go all the way to hana, it is too drought this winter, no waterfalls
at all.  Did you drive trough the north coast where you can find blowhole and
other spectacular scene?  How is the road on the north coast compared to the
road to hana?  The first two hours of road to hana seemed very easy for us,
but the road on the north coast is scary---almost not paved and only one lane
hanging on the cliff....

Yeah, the guy at budget talked me into renting a Subaru Forrester.
And it really helps. My wife and I drove all the way around the noth coast at
10 miles/hour sometimes. I need to keep blowing the horn to warn the incoming
cars all the time. But it's worth the trouble. Some of the views will be the
most spectacular ones you've ever seen, as long as you don't end up below the
cliff.

i think the road to hana are mostly paved, only too narrow and
sometimes one lane. the first two hours are nothing, compared with
the next couple hours.

I went to Maui last year in May. It's a very nice place,but in my opinion,
maybe 4 days are enough.  The way to hana is extremly narrow and waste too
much time, even I regret right now since I should go somewhere else instead of
going through all the way down. But if you have 8 days, you have enough time
to drive there. But at Hana, there is not much fun and it doesn't have very
beautiful sands.
If you enjoy snorkling, Monokili is good place, but compares to somewhere in
Kauai, it's just a "peanut".  The fish there is not coloful,coral is very good
but you better dive to get a better view.

Probabily you missed some side trips on the road to hana.
You can buy a hana tour cd ($10) at the the Borders near the airport shoping
center, and listen to it while driving, so you know when and where to make a
turn. Buying a Frommers Hawaii is also helpful.
What's famous is the ROAD to hana, not hana itself.

I have a question. Is there any way to hike on the way to Hana? Maybe I missed
some entrances of these trails. I stoped at some of these trail, but didn't go
very far. Is there a wonderful inside the trail? Can you mention some of them?
So I won't miss next time. I made several stops on the way, and there are some
beautiful scenic overlooks, waterfalls, but there are no big sand views like
Lahana, south and west Maui.

As far as I know, there is no great sand beach near Hana.
The tour CD can tell you when to make a turn, usually near some mile markers.

Some side trips I took include a giant bamboo forrest, a secluded rocky beach
far away from the main road, a nice little village in the middle of the taro
field, a place called Hookipa beach park aka windsurfing mecca. Frommer's says
that there is a great Waikamoi Ridge trail near mile mark 9, but I think I
also missed it.

People are so different that one way may fit you well but doesn't work on
others at all.

For 'traditional' Chinese travelers who care about the scenary spot, taking
pictures and accustomed to seeing more things within one trip, Honolulu is
way better than Maui. Because you can do so many activities without incurring
expensive charge.

But for advanced travelers who just want to relax and experience a week of
peaceful life in the heaven without being interfered. Maui and the Big island
offers the most. For this kind of vacationers, they just want to enjoy the
time, they don't care the scenary spot as long as they can snorkeling, tanning,
horsebacking, hiking, or just lying on the sand and reading as well as good
food and bars.

It's better to define yourself as which one of above before seeking a help
from others, and so does one giving suggestion.
