I don't think those two things are directly related. I have used AP when I
was on H-1B (and my EAD expired).

Sometimes the companies want their employees have both H-1B and EAD, to be
on the safe side. The lawyers would love to do so as long as they can make
more money. I believe this is totally unnecessary, as this is also confirmed
by some immigration lawyers (hooyou.com).

As to I-94 on H-1B, theoritically you should give them when you leave US.
But I would make copies if I am going to give them. I think you can keep one
(I-94 on H-1B) on the safe side...
