If you have permission to export the samples, carry documentation with you.

A few years ago a Chinese researcher in upstate New York (I think from
Cornell) was arrested at a U.S. airport as he was travelling back to China.
He had lab samples in his luggage, and I recall was initially charged with
theft, and prosecutors were seeking illegal export charges. I've tried to
find the news report using Google but can't find it.

By the way, just so you know, according to the U.S. government, the Visa
Mantis security check that is imposed on many Chinese visa applicants is
implemented to try to catch these kind of events.
